Handled Rope Bowl Class with Ray Hill

Interest in making rope bowls continues to remain high with new instruction books and rope products available to work with.
In this 4-hour class, we will be making a basic “naked” bowl; that is, a rope bowl without fabric wrapping. While a number of different types and weights of rope are available, this class will focus on the use of 3/16” (5mm) thick braided cotton rope sold by the Mountain Thread Company. Much of this class will reference Katherine Lile’s book, ZigZag Rope Sewing Projects, 16 Home Accessories to Make with a Simple Stitch.
Additionally, we will learn how to make several types of handles for the top of the bowl including the use of large wooden beads that hide the rope end, coiled circle endings, and several other finishing techniques.
We will briefly discuss the use of different weights of cotton rope, the use of paracord and other synthetics, fabric techniques, the use of variegated threads, buttons, and other embellishments.
The goal is for you to leave the class with a finished handled bowl.
