Christmas Wall Hanging Intermediate Paper Piecing Class with Suzzie Schuyler

This cute Christmas tree wall hanging is the next level for paper piecing: Intermediate. You asked for it and here it is, the wall hanging techniques incorporate paper-piecing and curved piecing. For students who are not comfortable with curved piecing, the instructor will bring extra patterns for the center tree and you can easily make the wall hanging with all three of the same trees. They will not look the same since you will be using a lot of different green fabrics.

Suzzie will also demo how to use directional fabric with paper piecing and  will provide a tutorial for reference. It is suggested that everyone bring their green scrap fabrics to share and then there will be even more of a variety of green fabrics. Please refer to the supply list for the sizes of the scrap fabric pieces.

There will be an $10.00 Kit Fee payable to the instructor that includes the Christmas tree wall hanging pattern, the paper-pieced patterns ready for you to use, tutorial for directional fabric paper-piecing, and the pattern to do the directional paper-pieced block.

We always have a lot of fun in class.  It doesn’t matter how fast or slow you sew or what your level of sewing is, only that you sew and have the motivation to learn more!

Supply List: Please read All and bring of the tools listed:

  •        Sewing machine in good working order; foot pedal, cord, manual for sewing machine, extension cord, and all feet you have for your sewing machine.
  •        Paper piecing tools: add a quarter ruler, plastic 2 1/2” x 12” piece, rotary cutter; seam roller or pressing tool, cutting mat (the cutting mat size is up to you: large mat to cut the borders and use for paper-piecing or small mat and use the shop’s larger mat for cutting the borders).
  •        Rulers: 6 ” x 12” and 8 1/2” x 24” ruler
  •        Neutral thread for sewing
  •        Pins and fabric glue
  •        Scissors, seam ripper, scotch tape
  •        Any notions you routinely use for your sewing experience
  •        For the Curved trees (there are 2 curved trees): (12) green rectangles 5 1/2” x 4 1/2” for each tree. This measurement covers the largest section on this tree so it is recommended to cut all the same size since you have not decided where to use the fabric pieces yet.
  •        For the center straight tree: (10) 7” x 2 1/2” rectangles for the tree.  This measurement covers the largest section on this tree so it is recommended to cut all the same size since you have not decided where to use the fabric pieces yet.
  •        Scraps of brown trunk fabric: you use can use the same fabric for all 3 tree trunks as used in this sample or use different brown scraps of fabric. The brown trunks are (3) 1 1/2” squares. The choice is yours.
  •        2” x the width of fabric for the ground fabric (I used a dark gold blender fabric)
  •        1/4 yd. of white tone on tone background fabric
  •        1/4 yd. of red tone on tone fabric
  •        1/2 yd. outer border fabric fabric
