Applique this antique quilt design by hand with traditional applique colors of red and green, or go wild with your fabric stash. Approach your applique with a plan – what comes first, next, last, and why. Learn to applique smooth inner and outer curves with freezer paper on top as a guide for needleturn. Master inner V-points, even the tiny ones, without fray. Sew leaf tips with sharp, pointy points, or softly pointed, as you wish. Try Barbara’s unique method to tame points so they turn easily and securely with minimal bulk, and learn to make perfectly round, softly padded berries. This antique quilt block design, also known as “Laurel Wreath,” provides a lovely frame to feature delicate inking, as often seen on antique quilts. Design a banderole in class for your signature and learn techniques for inking and sketching on fabric with permanent pens. Add calligraphic art or a vintage drawing, write a favorite poem in Spencerian script, or create a label for your quilt with a fancy scroll or banner. Barbara uses a video projection system so everyone can see closeups.
