Baltimore Garden Bluebird Wreath Hand Applique Class with Barbara Burnham

Inspired by designs on the 1848 antique appliqué quilt featured in Barbara’s book, Baltimore Garden Quilt. Start as a beginner, or raise your appliqué skills to a new level. Learn to appliqué with freezer paper on top as a guide for needleturn, and achieve accurate placement of pieces without marking the background. Appliqué smooth curves and leaves with sharp pointy points or softly pointed. Barbara will share her unique method to tame points so they turn easily and securely, and two easy ways to make skinny stems and arrange graceful curves. Discover tricks to handle very small appliqué pieces, minimize bulk and avoid wrinkles on appliqué blocks, and shortcuts to make hand appliqué faster. Experiment with fabrics for realistic effects and color blending. Bring your little bird to life with a tiny embroidered eye, or a polka dot. Embellish roses with a variety of easy embroidery stitches. Barbara uses a video projection system so everyone can see closeups.
