Tulip Wreath Hand Applique Class with Barbara Burnham
A new block design inspired by the 1848 antique appliqué quilt featured in Barbara Burnham’s book, Baltimore Garden Quilt. Start as a beginner, or raise your appliqué skills to a new level. Barbara will share helpful ideas for choosing fabrics that blend well together. Plan traditional colors of red and green, or go wild from your fabric stash. Approach your appliqué with a plan – what comes first, next, last, and why. Learn to applique smooth inner and outer curves with freezer paper on top as a guide for needleturn. Master wavy U-curves on tulip buds, and gentle inner V-curves on full blooming tulips. Sew your leaves and flowers with sharp, pointy points, or softly pointed, as you wish. Try Barbara’s unique method to tame those points so they turn easily and securely, and techniques to minimize bulk and prevent fray. Choose from several methods to make stems. Discover tricks to arrange them in graceful curves, and form a perfect, never-ending circle.
Barbara uses a video projection system so everyone can see closeups. She will offer tips, tricks, and ideas to handle small appliqué pieces and shortcuts to make hand appliqué faster and neater.
